Preservation of Digital Physical Formats

We're starting up a project at the National Library of Australia (NLA) to deal with the digital preservations of physical formats, such as CD-ROMs, DVDs, floppy disks, etc. These physical formats may be from a variety of platforms (e.g. PC, Mac, etc). The purpose of the project is to build a workflow system around the various digital preservation processes for these items (i.e. disk imaging, checksums, checking file formats, etc.).

We'd be interested in hearing from anyone else who's done any work in the area of physical format digital preservation - hopefully we can learn something from other projects around the globe!
